RESEARCHER ECO-HYDROLOGIST - CRITICAL ZONE (m/f)
Permanent contract | BelvauxAre you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a leading Research and Technology Organisation (RTO) that drives innovation for the economy and society in Luxembourg and beyond. With cutting-edge expertise in Natural, Built, Industrial environments, Space, AI, Security and defence technologies. LIST bridges scientific excellence and applied research to design solutions that address real-world challenges and create positive impact. Do you want to know more about LIST? Check our website: https://www.list.lu / How will you contribute? This position is for a scientist to contribute to the core mission of the Catchment and Eco-hydrology group within the Environmental Modelling and Sensing unit. Research will investigate processes controlling behavior of Earth's Critical Zone, with an emphasis on understanding dependencies and feedbacks between the hydrologic cycle and ecosystems. We seek a scientist dedicated to integrating novel empirical observations and theory to answer questions motivated by pressing societal needs related to natural resources, and relevant to both the global scientific community and applied practitioners who manage those natural resources. The successful candidate will be a key member of an interdisciplinary and collaborative research group. The successful candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized research program in ecohydrology, specifically in one of the following research areas:1. Tracers of eco-hydrologic processes. Research developing and applying innovative tracer approaches to understand water dynamics and associated biogeochemical processes across the soil–plant–atmosphere continuum. Building on existing strengths and infrastructure in the group, particular interest lies in stable isotope approaches that integrate environmental and eco-hydrological information using hydrological, plant physiological, or biogeochemical measurements.2. Small-catchment eco-hydrology. Research investigating interactions among vegetation, water dynamics, and biogeochemical processes, especially in forested headwater catchments. Particular interests include plant and ecosystem responses to hydrological extremes such as droughts and floods; thresholds and tipping points in vegetation and catchment functioning; and ecohydrological controls on the cycling and transport of carbon, plant nutrients, and pollutants.
